Boca Chita Lighthouse is a coral-stone ornamental tower at the entrance to Boca Chita Key’s protected harbor. Its observation deck offers broad views across Biscayne Bay toward Miami.
Mark Honeywell built the tower as part of his private island retreat. Its light was displayed only briefly because it had not been approved as an aid to navigation and could confuse mariners. The island later became part of Biscayne National Park.
Boca Chita Key is accessible only by boat. The island and tower exterior are open with the park, while the observation deck may open when park staff are available. Check National Park Service conditions before departing.
The National Park Service preserves the tower as an ornamental historic landmark. It is not an operating lighthouse or official aid to navigation.
