Off Islamorada, Florida Keys

Cape Canaveral
Cape Canaveral Lighthouse has guided mariners along Florida's Space Coast since the nineteenth century. The 145-foot iron tower, moved inland in the 1890s and painted in bold black-and-white bands, now shares its historic setting with an active launch range.
Key Biscayne
Standing at the southern tip of Key Biscayne, Cape Florida Lighthouse combines sweeping bay and ocean views with nearly two centuries of history. The restored white tower is the centerpiece of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and welcomes scheduled climbs.
St. George Island
Today's Cape St. George Lighthouse is a community-built reconstruction of the historic tower that collapsed in 2005. Salvaged bricks and original plans helped return the landmark to St. George Island, where visitors can climb for panoramic views of the Gulf.
Port St. Joe
Cape San Blas Lighthouse is the survivor of four towers built along a storm-battered stretch of the Gulf Coast. Moved from the cape to Port St. Joe in 2014, the restored skeletal tower now stands in a public park with regular climbing opportunities.
Off Key Largo
Carysfort Reef Lighthouse has guarded a notoriously dangerous reef off Key Largo since 1852. Florida's oldest surviving offshore reef light replaced an unreliable lightship and became the prototype for the great iron towers later built along the Keys.
Seahorse Key
The lighthouse on Seahorse Key is built into a broad brick keeper's dwelling high above the Gulf. First lighted in 1854 and returned to light in 2019, it opens only for special events reached by boat from Cedar Key.
Carrabelle
Crooked River Lighthouse is a striking red-and-white iron tower built in 1895 near Carrabelle. Restored after decades of service and neglect, it now anchors a public park with a keeper's house museum and regular tower climbs.
St. Petersburg
Egmont Key Lighthouse has watched over the entrance to Tampa Bay since the 1850s. Reached by boat through a wildlife refuge and state park, the shortened white tower shares the island with ruins of Fort Dade and miles of historic brick roads.
Off Key Biscayne
Fowey Rocks Lighthouse has stood directly on the reef east of Key Biscayne since 1878. Its open iron framework replaced Cape Florida as the area's principal seacoast light and remains an active, boat-access landmark within Biscayne National Park.
Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas
Garden Key Lighthouse rises from a bastion of Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas National Park. The compact black iron tower replaced an earlier brick lighthouse in 1876 and remains a prominent part of the fort, though its navigational service ended in 1921.
Gasparilla Island
Gasparilla Island Lighthouse began service in Delaware before being dismantled, shipped south, and rebuilt near Boca Grande. The slender white skeletal tower was relighted in 2019 after a community restoration and now shines with a replica Fresnel lens.
Hillsboro Beach
Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse has marked the reef-lined coast between Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach since 1907. Its black-and-white iron tower still displays a powerful second-order Fresnel lens and opens for a limited schedule of boat-access tours.
Jupiter
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse rises from an ancient shell mound above the meeting of the Loxahatchee River and Atlantic coast. First lighted in 1860, the red brick tower still operates with its first-order Fresnel lens and welcomes visitors year-round.
Key West
Key West Lighthouse has watched the city grow around it since the present tower was built in 1848. No longer an active aid, it is now a museum where visitors can climb above Old Town and explore the restored keeper's quarters.
Loggerhead Key, Dry Tortugas
Loggerhead Key Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the Florida Keys, rising 157 feet above a remote island in Dry Tortugas National Park. Its black-and-white brick tower is visible from Garden Key but requires a separate boat trip to visit.
Mayport
Built in 1954 at Naval Station Mayport, St. Johns Lighthouse is a modern concrete tower without a traditional lantern room. Its exposed beacon remains active, while military security limits close public access to the station.
Pensacola
Pensacola Lighthouse has guided ships into one of Florida's most important harbors since 1859. The black-and-white brick tower survived Civil War fire and still operates with a first-order Fresnel lens beside the historic keeper's quarters at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
Ponce Inlet
At 175 feet, Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is Florida's tallest lighthouse and one of the nation's best-preserved light stations. Visitors can climb 203 steps, tour three keeper dwellings, and see an exceptional collection of restored Fresnel lenses.
St. Augustine
St. Augustine Lighthouse is a 165-foot black-and-white striped tower completed in 1874 on Anastasia Island. Its original first-order Fresnel lens still shines, while the restored keeper's house and maritime museum welcome visitors throughout the year.
Jacksonville
The red-brick St. Johns River Lighthouse is the third historic tower built to mark Jacksonville's river entrance. Inactive since 1931 and surrounded by Naval Station Mayport, it can usually be seen only from a distance outside the base.
St. Marks
St. Marks Lighthouse has stood at the edge of Apalachee Bay since the 1840s, surviving hurricanes, Civil War damage, and shoreline change. The restored white tower remains active within St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and opens on selected days.
Off Key West
Sand Key Lighthouse rises from a reef southwest of Key West where earlier buildings were repeatedly swept away by hurricanes. The surviving 1853 iron tower is a familiar snorkeling landmark, but it is inactive and accessible only from the water.
Sanibel
Sanibel Island Lighthouse has marked the entrance to San Carlos Bay since 1884. The brown skeletal tower survived Hurricane Ian, was relighted five months later, and remains a beloved island landmark beside Lighthouse Beach Park.
Off Marathon
Sombrero Key Lighthouse has towered above the reef south of Marathon since 1858. The 149-foot iron structure endured generations of hurricanes and isolated keepers, and today it is best seen by boat, plane, or from the shores of Sombrero Beach.
